Currently, a massive oil spill has been covering a large portion of the Gulf of Mexico’s waters and coastlines from Louisiana to Florida. This spill is the result of a massive explosion that occurred on a British Petroleum (BP) drilling rig in the Northern Gulf on April 20, 2010 and was followed by a fire that lasted until April 21, 2010.<\/p>\n
Thousands of barrels of oil are being introduced to the Gulf’s waters on a daily basis. This has been classified as the most devastating environmental event in recent US history, and it is three times the magnitude of the Exxon Valdez oil spill at Alaska.<\/p>\n
Thus, everywhere in the US, people are constantly wondering: what’s going to happen now? Unfortunately, the answer to this question is still a big unknown and will probably remain like this for quite some time. More research on the environmental impacts of this event is needed.<\/p>\n
